How to Use Bard to Manage Your Spreadsheets Without Formulas

Step 1: Screenshot Your Spreadsheet Data

Take a screenshot of your data table. Ensure you include the column and row names in your image.

Remember: You don't have to include the whole table because the goal is to demonstrate the format of your data.

Step 2: Prompt in Bard

Open Bard’s chat and paste your screenshot. Use the following prompt template to carry out the task you're keen on:

“Assume the role of a data analyst specialist proficient in creating macros for Google Sheets. Given the data format in the attached screenshot from a Google Sheets document, write a JavaScript macro for my Google Sheets document to [GOAL]. Consider each step carefully to ensure the effectiveness of the macro code."

Goal example:

"Sort the students according to their Class Level and generate a scatter chart showing the correlation between each student's Major and Extracurricular Activity.”

Bard has given you a JavaScript macro for your Google Sheets. Now, copy the code.

Step 3: Paste Your Macro

Go back to your Sheets. Click on Apps Script in Extensions.

Substitute the current code with yours and save it.

Go back to Extensions, then Macros, and select Import macro. Then, choose "Add Function". Granting permissions to App Script is typically required.

Step 4: Run Your Macro

Now, the only thing left to do is run the macro. Navigate to the Macros option and select the macro you've just imported.

Google Sheets will handle the rest, processing your data automatically.
