Biden Administration Launches Effort to Develop AI Standards
Highlights:
The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) announced a request for information (RFI) to solicit input from stakeholders on how to develop and implement standards for artificial intelligence (AI) systems.
The RFI aims to address the challenges and opportunities of AI, such as ensuring safety, security, privacy, fairness, accountability, and interoperability, as well as fostering innovation and competitiveness.
The RFI is part of the Biden Administration’s broader strategy to advance responsible and trustworthy AI, which includes executive actions, voluntary commitments, risk management frameworks, and research and development plans.
The RFI invites feedback from a wide range of stakeholders, including industry, academia, civil society, and the public, on topics such as the scope, process, and governance of AI standards, as well as the best practices and use cases for AI applications.
The RFI is open for public comment until February 18, 2023, and the responses will inform the development of a report and recommendations on AI standards by OSTP and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
Why it matters: This effort matters because AI standards are essential for ensuring the quality, reliability, and trustworthiness of AI systems, as well as for promoting the ethical and beneficial use of AI for the public good.
Microsoft Copilot adds music creation feature with Suno integration
Highlights:
Microsoft Copilot, the AI-powered assistant for Microsoft 365, has announced a new feature that allows users to create music using natural language commands and Suno, a music generation platform.
Users can simply type or speak what kind of music they want, such as genre, mood, tempo, instruments, and lyrics, and Copilot will generate a custom song using Suno's technology.
Suno is a startup that uses deep learning to create original music in various styles and formats, such as jingles, podcasts, videos, and games.
The music creation feature is part of Copilot Studio, a new suite of tools that enables users to create and edit various types of content, such as presentations, videos, graphics, and code, with Copilot's assistance.
Copilot Studio is currently in preview and will be available to Microsoft 365 subscribers in early 2024.
Why it matters: This feature matters because it demonstrates how Copilot can enhance users' creativity and productivity by leveraging AI and third-party integrations. It also shows how Copilot can help users express themselves in different media and formats and create engaging and personalized content for various purposes and audiences.
